And we’re off…
The first ADHDAF+ Peer Support Group in London; just one of the five groups we facilitated in Scotland and England in May 2025
Welcome to ADHDAF+ Charity’s Blog!
Hello I’m Laura, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity and I have late discovered severe combined type ADHD.
Although ADHD presents differently in every individual, and ADHD symptoms fluctuate throughout our lifetimes due to co-occurring conditions, hormonal changes and life circumstances, there are traits that many people with ADHD share.
Lots of us struggle with appointments; both making them and keeping them. ADHD symptoms such as executive dysfunction can make admin tasks difficult. Working memory issues can make us forget to book or attend.
I also have co-occuring dyscalculia; so I often get dates and times muddled.
I’ve created links to
Register Interest in your Local Group
By dropping your email in the appropriate link on the website’s group location of your choice, you will receive reminders a few days before your chosen group and on the morning of.
I hope this helps anyone who struggles with appointments as much as I do to be able to attend.
Another common ADHD struggle is time, or ‘time soup’ as I call it!
I want all attendees to know that you do not have to be on time for any of our groups. Though to get the most out of a session it would be great to be there for the start; you can drop in half way through or even five minutes before the end just to say hi to like-minded locals.
There is no shame or judgement,
we all ‘get it’
Our longest running group is Aberdeen, Scotland; with June seeing its fourth free ADHD adult support group in the Silver City.
Our groups began at just one hour, but after the first session we realised this was not long enough.
Most groups run for 1.5 hours, with the Edinburgh and London groups tending to last for 2. Though we understand some people prefer a formal structure with set timings; start time aside, our approach to time is far more relaxed. And much like not having to be on time, you also don’t have to stay until the end and are very welcome to stand up, move around and take breaks.
Understanding the magnitude of the ADHD diagnosis crisis; with an estimated 196,000 on the waiting list for assessment, and a wait as long as eight years in some parts of the UK for what can be life saving diagnosis.
If you have or suspect you might have ADHD, you are welcome at our ADHD peer support groups.
No medical ADHD Diagnosis needed!
SELF DIAGNOSIS IS VALID.
The first couple of sessions of all groups are a more community focussed; get-to-know-you style, with specific topics and takeaways introduced monthly thereafter.
We aim to empower our volunteer facilitators as much as group attendees.
We know that all people with ADHD are different, so although our groups will be of a similar format, each will operate in a way that works best to support our facilitators.
For example, Kirsty, our Aberdeen facilitator and Yas, our Birmingham facilitator are both Teachers, so their groups will likely take a slightly different structure to groups such as London; currently run by two facilitators Ruth and Tracy; Body Doubling to support each other.
ADHD, the diagnosis crisis and medication shortages impact ADHD adults of all genders. So although our charity aims are for ADHD adults of marginalised genders, we will not turn anyone away from a support group.
It is however important to note that many of the sessions will have a focus on ADHD women’s health issues.
With workshops and events starting in the future.
These monthly support groups are only the very beginning for ADHDAF+ and we are so excited and grateful to be up and running with groups in: Birmingham, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London and Manchester so far.
If you would like to apply to facilitate a support group in your local area, you can do so HERE.
There are lots of ways you can support us; and as a brand new charity we do need and are grateful for all
the help we can get! :)
Speaking of Fundraising…
if you haven’t already heard
the AMAZING news:
we are so grateful to be included in
The Big ADHD Fundraiser 2025
In its third year, founder Darren and his team are once again cycling to raise funds for ADHDadultUK and ADHDAF+.
In honour of our Charity, they are cycling 288 miles through Scotland, England and Wales and they’re doing it in leopard print in homage of the Leopard Print Army; who inspired the creation of ADHDAF+
You can donate to
The BIG ADHD Fundraiser,
join the team and find out more HERE.
We hope you will join us at one of our June support groups;
and we would be so grateful to any of you able to spread the word about them on social media, and/or we can even send you some posters to put up in your place of work,
or local area.
A final reminder to
register interest in your local group
to get those reminders! :)
ADHDAF+ relies upon donations, so if you would like and are able to, we would be so grateful for any donations: HERE
THANK YOU SO MUCH
for all of your support in helping us

of marginalised genders.
We need each other now more than ever.
