      <image:title>Blog - Celebrating ONE WHOLE YEAR of ADHD Peer Support Groups! - Hello I’m Laura Mears-Reynolds, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity. I was diagnosed with severe combined type ADHD in 2022 at the age of 38.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Spring has sprung (fingers crossed) and we’ve got a Spring in our step - not only because of the AMAZING attendance and feedback of our many March groups… but because we are celebrating a whole year since we launched our first Peer Support Group to connect and empower ADHD adults of marginalised genders! We hope you’ll come along to your local group in April, where we’ll be discussing a topic we are all extremely passionate about: the impact our hormones can have on ADHD symptoms, particularly during Perimenopause and Menopause. Alongside ADHDAF+ 1 year of groups celebration, it is also Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Though with half a million remaining on the NHS waiting list for ADHD Asessment, and with benefits and ADHD service cuts putting already vulnerable people in danger; admittedly, it doesn’t feel like a particularly celebratory time for our community! However, we practice what we preach at ADHDAF+, so will always focus on the Glimmers as ‘micro joys are how we survive macro grief’ and due to the INCREDIBLE ADHDAF+ Team and your support, March was positively gleaming! But before we dive into the Glimmers galore…</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Our free in-person Peer Support Groups will continue to run monthly as usual, but this very special ADHD Event will be our only one of this year so as to enable us to get feedback from attendees to inform the multiple Easy Target Events of 2027. Feedback is essential for everything we facilitate - so that the work of ADHDAF+ will always be ABOUT US, BY US, FOR US. If you’d like to be at the Pilot of this groundbreaking Event Series in September, sign up to be the first to know the details HERE and if you have a business that would also like to partner with us on these incredible events (or you know of one that would be) we are looking for sponsorship, so please get in touch HERE</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Celebrating ONE WHOLE YEAR of ADHD Peer Support Groups! - For many with ADHD, perimenopause and menopause feel like a "perfect storm" because oestrogen and dopamine are closely linked. Since oestrogen helps the brain produce and use dopamine and ADHDers have faulty dopamine receptors; dropping hormone levels can make symptoms feel significantly more intense.</image:title>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Celebrating ONE WHOLE YEAR of ADHD Peer Support Groups! - I’ve discussed this topic many times on ADHDAF podcast. Most notably, this episode 2 years ago, in which BBC Breakfast and ITV This Morning’s LEGENDARY Dr Nighat Arif explains Multi Hormone Sensitivity Theory. How fluctuating estrogen levels can exaccerabate ADHD symptoms throughout various life stages, eg: periods, pregnancy, post partum, perimenopause and menopause AND even throughout the course of our monthly menstrual cycle. You can listen to this 2024 episode on Spotify HERE, on Apple HERE or wherever you usually get your podcasts. If your ADHD symptoms are heightened at different stages in your cycle YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Though incredibly frustrating (and often distressing) this is completely normal. But whatever life stage and whatever your gender, sex hormones are intrinscly linked to our brain function. I further explore this month’s ADHD Peer Support Group topic in a brand new episode with another INCREDIBLE expert…</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - ADHD Self-Relationship, plus a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and Blackpool! - Hello I’m Laura Mears-Reynolds, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity. I was diagnosed with severe combined type ADHD in 2022 at the age of 38.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Every year February shines the spotlight on romantic relationships. But whether you’re in one, several, or you’re self-partnered; relationships can be challenging for people with ADHD. Our focus for February’s free in-person ADHD Peer Support Groups is on the most important relationship any person can have; Self-relationship. We hope you’ll come along to your local group in Scotland, England or Wales (at last!) to discuss this very important topic with other ADHD adults of marginalised genders. Before we dive into what’s coming up in February, let’s reflect on the glimmers that brightened up the darkest month of the year, and unlike the current 2016 nostalgia onine; ADHD is NOT a social media trend; and I want to ‘throw it back’ six years later…</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - ADHD Self-Relationship, plus a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and Blackpool! - Happy New Year! I’m Laura, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity, and I was diagnosed with severe combined type ADHD four years ago, aged 38 in January 2022.</image:title>
      <image:caption>ADHD diagnosis and medication not only improved, but genuinely saved my life! Three months post diagnosis, I started a Podcast called ADHD As Females (ADHD AF) in the hope that sharing my lived experience would help others like me, to help raise ADHD awareness, and to be part of the push for essential systemic change to improve, and also save lives.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - ADHD Self-Relationship, plus a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and Blackpool! - All of February’s groups will focus on the topic: Self-Relationship, but what does that mean?</image:title>
      <image:caption>How do you think about yourself? Talk to yourself? Care for yourself? How do you respond to your own emotions and needs? Just as self-love is much more than bubble baths and chocolate cake(!) Self-relationship is the very foundation for mental health, confidence, and how we relate to others.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - New Year, Same ADHD and SAD - Hello I’m Laura Mears-Reynolds, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity. I was diagnosed with severe combined type ADHD in 2022 at the age of 38.</image:title>
      <image:caption>As each year draws to a close, pressure builds to become a ‘new you’ on New Years Day. The truth is, though we all evolve over time, life changes tend to be gradual. Not only will we still have the same ADHD in 2026 - and the many challenges the condition can bring - but also; we’re not broken versions of ourselves needing to be fixed! We’re the same people, and we’re facing the coldest and darkest months of year. Our aim for January’s ADHD Peer Support Groups is to remove the pressure to become a ‘new person’ and to find ways to best support ourselves through these winter months, and we hope you’ll come along to your local group. But first, let’s look back on the final chapter and Glimmers of 2025…</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - New Year, Same ADHD and SAD - Though each month’s adults only groups focus on a different topic; all follow the same format for each session and run for two hours. All of our venues are fully accessible, and although attendees are encouraged to share their experiences if they would like to - there’s no pressure! Similarly, there’s no pressure to be on time or stay for the duration. All are welcome to sit comfortably, take some time out or move around during - so long as they do not disrupt the session for other attendees. Fidgets, and similar are provided, but feel free to bring something to do, if that would make you more comfortable: we’ve had group attendees bring along crocheting for example.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - New Year, Same ADHD and SAD - Our New Years wish for all ADHD adults is that of self awareness and self compassion. Struggling with routine, finances, self care, relationships, etc, are not perosnal failings, they’re symptomatic of the condition.</image:title>
      <image:caption>We cannot wish our ADHD away. But we can acknowledge and accept the challenges it brings to us each individually. This self inventory and acceptance enables us to find systems to best support ourselves; greatly improving our quality of life.</image:caption>

If we think of ADHD like ice cream, though there are many different flavours and topping combinations, but it’s all still ice cream!</image:title>

      <image:caption>All of the shows were incredible, but we particularly loved the last one of the night, ADHDAF Emporium raised ADHD awareness and brought the house down with a leopard print army invasion. Delivering hard hitting truths with ADHD articles causing alienation and Bingo balls serving hard hitting statistics, a truly unique way to to inform attendees of the dire state of the ADHD diagnosis crisis in the UK. We are so grateful for the donation of £992! But that’s not all from Blackpool… a peer support group will be starting there very soon…</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - Hello I’m Laura, the founder of ADHDAF+ Charity and I have late discovered severe combined type ADHD.</image:title>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/66f424845816776b3e4d020a/7887c06a-c211-45e4-be83-abada6fef345/Add+a+heading.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - Lots of us struggle with appointments; both making them and keeping them. ADHD symptoms such as executive dysfunction can make admin tasks difficult. Working memory issues can make us forget to book or attend. I also have co-occuring dyscalculia; so I often get dates and times muddled.</image:title>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - By dropping your email in the appropriate link on the website’s group location of your choice, you will receive reminders a few days before your chosen group and on the morning of. I hope this helps anyone who struggles with appointments as much as I do to be able to attend.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - Another common ADHD struggle is time, or ‘time soup’ as I call it! I want all attendees to know that you do not have to be on time for any of our groups. Though to get the most out of a session it would be great to be there for the start; you can drop in half way through or even five minutes before the end just to say hi to like-minded locals.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - Understanding the magnitude of the ADHD diagnosis crisis; with an estimated 196,000 on the waiting list for assessment, and a wait as long as eight years in some parts of the UK for what can be life saving diagnosis. If you have or suspect you might have ADHD, you are welcome at our ADHD peer support groups.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - The first couple of sessions of all groups are a more community focussed; get-to-know-you style, with specific topics and takeaways introduced monthly thereafter.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - We aim to empower our volunteer facilitators as much as group attendees. We know that all people with ADHD are different, so although our groups will be of a similar format, each will operate in a way that works best to support our facilitators.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - And we’re off… - ADHD, the diagnosis crisis and medication shortages impact ADHD adults of all genders. So although our charity aims are for ADHD adults of marginalised genders, we will not turn anyone away from a support group. It is however important to note that many of the sessions will have a focus on ADHD women’s health issues. With workshops and events starting in the future.</image:title>
